Casadesus

In 1975, the Robert Casadesus International Piano Competition was inaugurated in Cleveland, Ohio, to honor the memory of legendary French pianist, Robert Casadesus. John Owings was awarded First Prize along with the Ravel Medal in observance of the centennial of Ravel s birth. Mr. Owings was invited to perform with the Cleveland Orchestra in Severance Hall and to give recitals in other cities in the U.S. and Europe.

His involvement with the music of Robert Casadesus has included performances, lectures and articles. Koch International Classics recently released his CD with Fritz Gearhart of the complete works for violin and piano. A CD of the 24 Preludes, the U.S. premiere of which Mr. Owings gave in New York in October, 1999, is planned for the near future.
